The results are in! On this journey of all natural beauty care, making my own natural hair wash, conditioner, and hair product, I knew I also needed a natural solution to my ever-expanding collection of grays. Of course there is the option of just letting myself go gray gracefully, but after a couple months of allowing the roots to grow in, I decided this goddess just isn’t ready for that.
Here are three different products I tried for my long, thick, wavy brown hair, and their results.
Surya Henna Cream
Great option for color if gray coverage is not a concern.
This color was very easy to use, gave me an all over beautiful rich tone, and definitely had some valuable conditioning properties. However, it did not cover my grays. This is a great option for anyone wanting a nontoxic color option without concern for gray coverage.
Morrocco Method International Light Blonde Henna
Zero gray coverage, messy, and time consuming.
I decided to give this a try as it is 100% natural, and the website claimed emphatically that using the light blonde henna will turn your grays into natural sun-streaked highlights. The process was ridiculously time consuming, beginning with steeping tea the night before, then leaving the henna in your hair for four hours. It was also incredibly messy, with globs of henna all over the bathroom, and it left my hair so stinky and gritty, I had to use shampoo! To top it all off, after all of that, absolutely no gray coverage whatsoever.
Naturtint Permanent Hair Color
The winner! Excellent color and gray coverage.
This color smells great, is easy to mix, use, and apply, and the results were excellent. The color came out quite dark initially then faded into something that more naturally blended with my hair tone. The best news of all, the gray coverage was excellent. This is the brand I’ll be sticking with for the time being.
