When life feels hectic and overwhelming, it’s easy to curl up on the couch at the end of each day and zone out in front of Netflix, because you’re just too tired to do anything else.
Over a long period of doing that night after night, do you feel replenished, rested, and energized? Do you feel inspired, creative, supported?
Perhaps in the short term the answer is yes. When our minds are always go go go, it’s a wonderful respite to tune into your favorite show and tune out all the noise of your life.
However, if it’s the only thing you do to nurture yourself when you’re feeling spent, chances are your soul will start to crave something else. Indications of that are feeling bored, restless, depressed, uninspired, trapped, and monotonous.
What if you took a chance, even when you were feeling tired, and chose to…
- Spend time with a friend whose company you really enjoy?
- Go to that yoga class you used to love, or you’ve been meaning to check out for ages?
- Try that restaurant that’s been getting so many rave reviews?
- Paint a picture or write a poem, just for fun?
Ask yourself “What lights me up?” Jot down some ideas. Then put some plans on your calendar and stick to them!
I bet that even if you’re feeling tired, once you get out the door and connect with people, or dust off your paint set and make an idea come to life on your canvas, you will feel energized, inspired, and uplifted! Then you can go to bed feeling more complete, and wake-up feeling rested.
I received a strong reminder of this after several weeks of intense focus on a work project, plus doing some healing work on a health issue, both of which were making me want to cocoon myself and just get through it. But this week I spent time with my girlfriends and not only do I feel a surge of fresh energy, I’m thinking more clearly and feel more effective in my work.
The benefits of connecting with the people and activities that you enjoy create a positive ripple effect into all areas of your life.
In the comments below, share one thing you plan to do this weekend to shake things up and light up your energy.
Lots of love,
