4 Steps to overcoming overwhelm in the moment

Isn’t it so awesome when you’re on a roll, on top of your game, everything running smoothly and almost effortlessly flowing toward you? Until, of course, it’s not happening that way… Then all of a sudden you wake up one morning and bam! You’re hit with a tsunami of stress and overwhelm, and can’t imagine how you’re going to get through it.

When that happens, it’s common to feel paralyzed and incapable of facing the Mount Everest of tasks that need your attention.

It happened to me recently. I had a very dear friend in town, had an amazing time traipsing around LA and being BFFs, but then Monday rolled around. I was completely out of my routine and instead of feeling light and rested, I felt panicked.

Thankfully, I turned to some trusted and true practices, and it worked! So I want to share them with you…

Step 1: Stop thinking of everything all at once.

Take a deep breath and remind yourself, even if you actually were climbing Mount Everest, the only thing you can do in any given moment is take the next step toward the summit.

Step 2: As your body what it needs.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a total panic, or major brain fog, then realized I simply needed a good snack, or a hefty meal. Tune into your body and see if it’s hungry or thirsty. Give yourself something nourishing so your body doesn’t have to be in stress mode, even if your mind is.

Step 3: Call a mentor or trusted friend.

Pick up the phone and call someone to let them know you’re freaking out and need some perspective. It’s best if it’s someone who has a clear picture of what you actually have on your  plate and isn’t going to belittle you. Getting some perspective is so helpful!

Step 4: Get back to your routine.

Routines and structure are what keep you grounded and progressing forward. Without it, everything can feel like it’s falling to pieces. Start with writing a list of only what is realistically possible to accomplish in that day, and take the next logical step toward accomplishing it. That’s all you can do!

I promise you can accomplish all of these steps in 15 minutes, and you’ll be so happy you did! It will reset your day and get you away from fear and back in your loving flow.

Let me know how it goes!

Love, Sasha
