Embrace Imperfection and Unlock Creative Freedom

Written by:

Perfectionism can be a major creativity killer. If you’re holding yourself back from making art because you think it has to be good to be worth your time, think again! You might be completely missing out on the joy of creating.

Are you up for the challenge?

Hi Sasha. Indeed embracing imperfection is a skill. Brene Brown writes about the gifts of imperfection.
A Master was a beginner more times than anyone. It takes years of practice to learn a skill even those heavily gifted in talent need practice and they, all too often, lack the discipline of the person with a smaller natural gift who achieves his/her goals through grit and perseverance. We all want to be good at something, stand out from the crowd, be different, unique, special. What we don’t realize is we are! We have the gift of a unique soul. You know all the cliches I’m sure. I say to myself over and over …. And over… is.
“ Allow yourself to be a beginner.” That’s all. Then the rest is easier.

“Allow yourself to be a beginner.” That’s a beautiful mantra, Patricia! I’m going to remember it, and use it. Thank you for sharing.

I completely agree about grit and perseverance. It’s truly what sets people apart, and can at times feel so difficult to access. Yet, as you say, we are all unique just by the fact of us being.
